We are the champions...

The lacrosse club Tricksters Bratislava defended their position from last year and became the champions of the Slovak Lacrosse League for the eleventh time in history.

The Slovak Lacrosse League has been played since 2010, and except for two seasons when the orange and black team didn't participate, or in 2020 when they lost in the finals, there is only one name engraved on the trophy: Tricksters Bratislava.

However, this year's defense was much tougher. The format of the regular season, where the top 2 teams from the North and South groups advanced to the final 4, marked the end of the season, especially in our group, where teams started strategizing and conserving energy for the final tournament, which they would qualify for anyway. Our boys were the only team that didn't drop a single point and smoothly advanced to the final tournament.

In the semifinals, they faced the team from Prague, Jižní Město, whom they defeated decisively with a score of 11:4, as our team only played out the final quarter. The opponent scored 3 goals in a row and slightly embellished the result of the semifinal match.

The second semifinal was more intense, featuring teams from Vienna and Brno. Vienna played in a completely different lineup than they did in the regular season, and it showed. The match was tight, and in the end, the luckier team, Brno, decided the victory with an 8:7 score in overtime.

In the final, the Tricksters faced Brno on Sunday, November 5th. The game didn't unfold in our favor from the beginning, and it was evident that our western neighbors were motivated to win the cup. Due to our mistakes, we quickly fell behind 3:0. Fortunately, the Tricksters managed to equalize to 3:3 by the end of the quarter. However, in the subsequent parts of the game, Brno's players had the upper hand again. The Tricksters seemed nervous and were frequently penalized. It was as if they couldn't find the right rhythm and couldn't execute standard plays in their attacks. Brno pulled ahead, reaching a threatening score of 7:4. After the break, things started to change. The Tricksters refused to accept defeat and began to aggressively press the opponent's offense, although the third quarter didn't bring any goals. It turned into a chase, culminating in the last quarter when Fürézs ensured the equalizer at 7:7.

Overtime followed, played with a golden goal rule, meaning the team that scores first wins. Both teams had opportunities to score, but it was Severský who scored 1:30 minutes before the end of the first overtime, securing the triumph for Tricksters Bratislava in the final of the Slovak Lacrosse League. The Tricksters ended the season and their participation in the SLL as an undefeated team, just like in the previous season.

Our boys dedicated the winning cup to their late teammate Janko Hubáček, who unexpectedly left us this year.
