The Tricksters finished second in Budapest
Lacrosse players Tricksters Bratislava took second place at the New Year's Cup tournament in Budapest, which took place on 5–7. January 2024. The new year and their 21st season in orange and black started successfully. In the final, they were not enough only for players from the Czech Braslava.
The boys started the tournament victoriously, beating Switzerland's Bern 13:7. In the second match on Friday, our team competed against The Good Stick lacrosse from the Czech Republic, which they lost 12:5.
Saturday started again victoriously and the Slovaks beat Graz 7:3. We ended Saturday victoriously against a team from Serbia named Rakija 14:6. The Tricksters thus advanced from the second place to the semi-finals of the tournament, where they met the winner of the basic group B, which was the Swiss team Olten Saints.
The semi-final was very interesting and it was really probably the most interesting match of the whole tournament. The Tricksters led almost the whole match, but the opponent got into the match from the middle and turned it in their favor. He even led by a goal 2 minutes before the end. Severský took care of the equalizing goal a minute before the end, passing through the opponent's defense and hanging the goal. By the end of the match, the score had not changed and the match was heading to overtime. Our boys had the first chance to score, but they didn't use it. The opponent had a chance to score a goal, but our defense managed to stop the attack and immediately Severský scored again, who made the decision and the victory meant that our team advanced to the final again against an opponent from Prague.
We started the final match better and led, but in the end the opponent managed to turn the game around and lead. Unfortunately, even in this match, some of the opponent's players showed themselves, constantly provoking our players and mocking the players. Many skirmishes and jostles finally led to the early termination of the match 5 minutes before the end with a clear score of 6:15 in favor of Břaslava.
Nevertheless, we can evaluate the tournament very positively. Matej Kuzmický's performance in goal was a pleasant surprise, for whom it was the first tournament in this position, and we are already looking forward to his next performance between the three posts.
