Granted entrance to the lacrosse year 2019

Bratislava Tricksters Lacrosse Club, started 2019 successfully. In a well-attended New Year's Cup tournament in Budapest, which took place on January 12 and 13, our team won the third place when they won four matches and lost only against a finalist from the Swiss selection of Olten Saints.

On Saturday, Tricksters met in the first match of the group stage with the Olten Saints team (SWI) and were beaten by them for three-goals, 6:9. Our players made up for the first half of the match, when the players were still mentally on the road and did not focus on the match. Tricksters took advantage of their quality and despite the efforts to reduce the lead in the second half, but they lost anyway.

The second Saturday rival of our boys in the group was the Polish selection Cebulax. Tricksters had a 6 to 3 lead all the way to the match, but the opponent was able to finish the match and the game went into an extension that was played for a quick death just 2 minutes. The orange black closed opponent from Poland in their defensive zone and after a series of multiple shots the ball finally got behind the back of goalkeeper Cebulax. Tricksters won the Polish team 7:6.

Sunday kicked off our players sharply, a rival from the Russian Federation, which was stacked from players from Russia, USA, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic. The match was quite balanced again, yet Tricksteri counseled with the opponent and won again one goal 5: 4.

The last match of the group was against Graz in Austria meant that if Tricksters win and the match between Olten Saints and Cebulax were won by the Swiss, Tricksters would take second place in the group and will play for the final third place at the tournament. The Slovaks played their role in the favor and in the second half of the match the newcomers got to the pitch who enjoyed the speed and hardness of the international lacrosse on their own skin. Although the opponent managed three goals to reduce the clear lead of the orange, the Tricksters beat the opponent and won 8:6.

But the match between Olten Saints and Cebulax was interesting. In the first half clearly dominated the Swiss, who scored perhaps from each event. In the second part of the game, however, the Poles turned the game and even managed to bring the game to an extension. In the event of their victory, it could even happen that our boys would not even play medals because the tournament system was completely different from the standard league competition. Last but not least, the winning goal was extended to Saints, which meant that the third place in the tournament will meet Tricksters Bratislava, against the rival from Vienna, the Monarchs.

The match for the third place was expected to be balanced. Our boys went to the lead, but then the Monarchs took over the fight and made even a three-point lead. In the second half, it was 3:6 in favor of Monarchs. However, the tricksters did not give up, they paused during the break and began to play what had been successful in previous games. Gradually reduced the lead of the opponent and finally turned the match in their favor 7:6. The end of the match was cut out of the American film, with a happy ending for Tricksters. Vienna was not the first to score an offside goal, and consequently not to score a goal in the goal. The counterattack led Tricksters to lead 7:6 and stayed for 2 minutes until the end of the match. In the end, the opponent, along with the referee's lead, managed to score, but as the shot went through the goal line after the time had passed, the Tricksteri was victorious. An unbelievable match, a great tournament, and a lot of friends who played against Tricksters, but they were both talking and playing together. Something unprecedented in our lands, but quite normal in a lacrosse world that is great and beautiful.
