Silesia cup is once again ours!
Tricksters Lacrosse team kicked off the season of 2013 with great style. At the international lacrosse tournament – Silesia cup 2013 held in Wroclaw (Poland) the team grabbed the title just as in the premiere year of the tournament in 2010.
The guys set off early on Saturday morning. The meeting was scheduled for 5:30, but as usual they did not depart before 6 AM. Journey itself was passing by quickly as the cities disappeared over the horizon with the rising sun. The so anticipated arrival was expected at 12:00. Not even the rain nor the roadblock (which in case of respecting the road signs and thus taking a detour would extend our trip by additional two hours) could possibly spoil the great journey.
The arrival in Wroclaw was a dream come true. After six hours the sun showed itself over the fields at the Olympic stadium and Tricksters began to get ready for their first duel against Rotterdam Jaguars. From the first whistle it was pretty clear who is the dominant team on the field. We proved that in terms of quality, Netherlands prevails only when it comes to their national team. Tricksters beat the second team of Dutch league 7:0.
Next up was a game against Katowice. A team of lacrosse beginners was a piece of cake for our guys. The official score after the full time whistle was 14:0 however the real score was 16:0, for the refs somehow managed to forget to keep the score and the goal-scorers.
The third game of the day promised a much better lacrosse. The quarterfinal encounter matched up Tricksters LT against Zombies from Belgrade. The Serbs played a lot of physical lacrosse, often beyond the line of tolerance. Their effort in getting too much physical did reflect in frequent penalties that the Tricksters did not punish and when the score read 3:2 it seemed they would have a tough game on their hands. The orange however shifted a higher gear and stole the game for themselves with the final score 7:2!
The second day was again warm and sunny. The semifinal game featured Tricksters LT and the home team Kosinierzy Wroclaw. As the guys were entering the field they recalled the still vivid memory of last contact with Polish lacrosse. The WC game in Manchester 2010 against national team of Poland resulted in a defeat 11:6 for us. This game however, was more fortunate for guys from Slovakia. Tricksters kept the Polish under pressure until very late in the game, when they dropped their guard and conceded two goals in man down situation. The game went eventually to Tricksters with the very convincing score 10:3. Tricksters fought their way to the finals where they would play the winner of the second semifinal featuring Prievidza Headhunterz and Dreadlax (UK).
The desired all-Slovak final would not happen as Prievidza lost their semifinal game in overtime 6:5. 3 years have passed since Tricksters had defeated a UK team Croydon Lacrosse in Silesia cup 2010 final and now they were to face another team from the British islands. The game length was 4×15 minutes. The guys from England proved their qualities throughout the whole game however, the collective endeavor of our players resulted in an early lead that they would retain, and with the final score 9:4 take the title of overall champions.
The long way home was a pain that could only be relieved by the victorious feeling of our new champions. All in all, the tournament was a great success where Tricksters once again proved they can play lacrosse.
