Who is Juraj Kovacik

Juraj Kovacik was born on 24th of June, 1986 in Banská Bystrica. He is one of the longest-serving players in our club.

He joined the club in 2004 as a novice. During his presence in the club he has become the most trustworthy member. He plays on attack and participated in all of the big Slovak lacrosse events, European championships 2008 and 2012 and world lacrosse championship 2010. We asked Juraj some questions.

What is your aim as a club president? My goal is to retire from the Executive Committee in two years and give the young successor a club with at least 20–30 active players (and other members who support our team outside the field) and with field on which they have conditions to train all year round (which means to solve the lighting).

What are you planning to implement in the near future? In the near term, the priority once again remains the recruitment as soon as the start of game practices. We also really want to look at where the club spends money and how much and to figure out where to make spending cuts to primarily support trainings and exits. The practical matter is alignment of training and organization of the Tricksters cup.

Where do you think is the current lacrosse in Slovakia directed? Currently I can see that the initial enthusiasm, present in the establishment of lacrosse in Slovakia, faded away and now we must carry on step by step with our perseverance. This is a natural development, and we must, on one hand adapt to the new conditions while on the other to recall values on which lacrosse started to build up on in Slovakia at its beginnings. For me it was a joy of the game, the companionship on the field and beyond, openness, willingness to help and to be involved, perseverance and effort to improve (as a person, not just as a player). If we stick to this, I believe that both, our club and lacrosse in Slovakia will slowly but surely grow.
